Challenge
In many drought-prone and food-insecure communities, hunger is one of the biggest barriers to education. Many children attend school primarily because they are assured of a meal during the day. As funding for school feeding programs declines, schools risk reducing or suspending meal services, leading to increased absenteeism, poor academic performance, malnutrition, and higher dropout rates. Without reliable meals, many children are forced to choose between hunger and education.
Solution
Jesuits’ Hakimani Eastern Africa is committed to ensuring that vulnerable children continue receiving nutritious meals at school. Through this campaign, every donation will directly support school feeding programs in arid counties, helping schools provide consistent meals that encourage attendance, improve learning outcomes, and promote children’s health and well-being. Together, we can ensure that no child has to learn on an empty stomach.
How your donation will be used?
When you support the Feed a Child, fuel a Dream campaign, your donation will help to:
- Provide nutritious daily meals to vulnerable schoolchildren.
- Keep children in school by reducing hunger-related absenteeism.
- Improve children’s concentration, health, and academic performance.
- Support schools in sustaining feeding programs during funding shortages.
- Restore hope for children and families facing food insecurity.
Expected Impact
At KSh 100 per meal, the campaign will provide approximately:
- 20,000 nutritious meals
If a child receives 20 meals per month (one meal for each school day), the campaign can support approximately:
- 1,000 child-months of meals
Examples:
- 250 children for four months
- 330 children for about three months
- 500 children for two months
