Green Schools
Our Green Schools initiative creates safe, sustainable, and climate-resilient learning environments by integrating climate education, rainwater harvesting, solar energy, child safeguarding, and environmental stewardship. The programme empowers learners, teachers, and communities to become champions of sustainability while connecting climate action, good governance, and human development into one practical model.
Climate Adaptation in Conflict-Affected Communities
We empower vulnerable communities to adapt to the impacts of climate change through practical, community-led solutions. Our work focuses on improving water resilience, strengthening livelihoods, and promoting sustainable natural resource management in fragile contexts.
Peace, Dialogue & Civic Reconciliation
Hakimani promotes peaceful coexistence by fostering dialogue, reconciliation, and civic participation among communities affected by conflict. Through faith-based engagement and local partnerships, we help build trust, strengthen social cohesion, and support sustainable peace.

Community Water for Peace and Resilience
We improve access to sustainable water solutions that strengthen livelihoods and reduce resource-based conflicts. By promoting rainwater harvesting, water governance, and climate-resilient practices, we help communities build resilience in the face of climate change.

Awareness · Needs Assessment
At Jesuits Hakimani Centre, our work begins by listening to communities and understanding the realities they face. Through a participatory needs assessment, we identify the barriers that prevent individuals and communities from accessing justice, protecting their rights, and living with dignity. This process enables us to design responses that are community driven, context-specific, and sustainable.
Guided by the voices of the people we serve, our approach follows a clear journey, from creating awareness of rights and responsibilities, to empowering individuals and communities with knowledge and practical skills, advocating for justice and systemic change, and ultimately fostering lasting transformation where people can confidently claim their rights and actively shape a more just and inclusive society. This approach ensures that every intervention is rooted in local realities while advancing Hakimani’s mission of promoting justice, human dignity, peace, and the common good across Eastern Africa.
Empowerment · Knowledge & skills
Building on what we learn, we equip individuals and communities with the knowledge, practical skills, and confidence to understand and claim their rights. Through training, mentorship, and accompaniment, people move from awareness to action.
Empowered with information and capability, community members become agents of change within their own contexts able to support one another and to engage the systems that shape their lives.
Advocacy · Justice & systems
We stand with communities to advocate for justice and systemic change. By engaging duty-bearers, informing policy, and amplifying the voices of those too often unheard, we work to remove the structural barriers that keep people from living with dignity.
Advocacy turns individual awareness into collective influence addressing not only immediate needs but the conditions that create them.
Change · Lasting transformation
The journey culminates in lasting transformation. Communities are able to confidently claim their rights and actively shape a more just, peaceful, and inclusive society.
